Discussion of mediation in social care, the recent report and the Law Commission project on considering how support should be changed within this cohort.

This will include:

  • An over view of the pilot of mediation in kinship care
  • The details of the report and what was learnt.
  • The law commission project and how to pull it all together for the benefit of mediation and families.

  • Discussion on how families viewed the MIAM (which was considered in the evaluation as a stand alone intervention)

  • The importance of meditation to families with differing backgrounds
Your speakers
Helen is the CEO of Southampton Families Trust which support vulnerable families and trains local authority and others in trauma informed practice.

Helen has been actively involved in funding bids and provision of mediation services under the DWP contracts and Foundations

Claire has worked in family law since 1990, founding Mediation Now (now known as Family Solutions) in 2007 together with Rebecca Hawkins. Family Solutions focuses on non court resolution, offering legally aided and privately funded mediation, collaborative practice, Arbitration, Parenting Coordination and supervision. Claire is an FMC accredited mediator, a specialist in Child Inclusive Mediation (CIM) and a hybrid/ integrated mediation practitioner, a Resolution-trained collaborative lawyer, a specialist in Child Inclusive Mediation (CIM) and a hybrid/ integrated mediation practitioner and a qualified Parenting Coordinator. Claire is also trained as Civil Mediator through ADRg and offers hybrid/integrated and co-mediation. She is a qualified Arbitrator in children and finances cases.

Claire previously sat as the mediator member of the Family Justice Council and is a member of the Local Family Justice Board. Claire also sits on the Family Mediation Council’s training panel and accreditation panel and Resolution’s Children panel. She speaks on issues of non-court resolution and offers training courses for Family Mediators Association.

Family Solutions has funding from What Works in Children’s Social Care to look at mediation in respect of Kinship providers enabling us to work closely with three Local Authorities to see where mediation supports and assists the most.
