About us

The Family Mediation Council (FMC) was established in October 2007 and works for greater public awareness of, and access to, family mediation.  We work closely with the Legal Aid Agency (LAA) and the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) on family mediation related projects.

The FMC acts as a common platform for family mediation’s national organisations to negotiate with government and other stakeholders.  We also work to ensure that information regarding mediation is collated and made more readily available.

The FMC’s members are the national family mediation organisations in England and Wales, all of which ensure their family mediators work to agreed professional and training standards.

The FMC has agreed its priorities for 2018-19 – these can be found in the Summary of the FMC’s  Strategic Plan for 2018-19
